Construction Joint Sealing
Wherever two separate concrete pours meet, there's a seam — and seams are where water finds a way in.

What it is
A construction joint is the seam formed where one concrete pour stops and a new one begins, common in large slabs, walls and multi-stage construction. Unlike expansion joints, these aren't designed to move — but the seam between the two pours is rarely perfectly bonded, making it a common point of water entry.
How it works
Depending on the joint's condition, treatment ranges from routing and sealing the joint line with a flexible sealant to injecting waterstop grout along the seam. In new construction, a waterstop strip is often embedded in the joint before the second pour to prevent the issue altogether.
When it's used
- Basement and podium slabs cast in multiple stages
- Retaining walls with visible seepage tracking along a horizontal seam
- New construction, where waterstops can be embedded proactively
