APP / Bituminous Membranes

A proven, heavy-duty sheet membrane system, torch-applied for roofs and terraces that face constant sun and weather exposure.

A large flat roof structure, representative of the surfaces suited to APP bituminous membranes

What it is

APP (Atactic Polypropylene) modified bituminous membranes are factory-manufactured sheet membranes made from bitumen modified with polymers for improved flexibility and UV resistance. They're rolled out and torch-applied to bond to the substrate, forming a heavy-duty waterproofing layer.

How it works

Membrane rolls are laid out over a primed surface and heated with a torch as they're unrolled, melting the underside so it bonds directly to the substrate. Sheets are overlapped at the edges and sealed to form a continuous barrier.

When it's used

  • Large, relatively flat terraces and roofs with sustained direct sun exposure
  • Applications where a thick, heavy-duty membrane is preferred over a thinner coating
  • Re-roofing projects where a proven, long-standing system is preferred

Advantages

  • High resistance to UV exposure and weathering over time
  • Thick, robust membrane suited to high-traffic or exposed roof areas
  • A long-established system with a well-understood installation process
